Northeastern University acquires the first Quantum Microscope in the US as Qnami opens to North American market

Yesterday, September 7 2022, the Massachusetts Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Mike Kennealy announced a new partnership between Northeastern University and the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC), and the opening of the Experiential Quantum Advancement Laboratories (EQUAL). The new, state-of-the-art facility, based at the Burlington Innovation Campus will form a high-impact quantum innovation hub in the State of Massachusetts connecting academics and industries, with the goal to accelerate and maturing next-generation quantum technologies.

On this occasion, Qnami announced the delivery of the first commercial scanning NV microscope in the entire United States. The microscope, which will equip the EQUAL facility, will enable rapid advancement and characterization of quantum materials and devices on a nanoscale, as well as the prototyping of next-generation quantum-sensing-based technologies.

Professor Swastik Kar, director of EQUAL, said:

“The Qnami microscope is a unique instrument and central tool within EQUAL. Our team and industry partners are looking forward to exploring the full capabilities of the instrument”

Qnami’s CEO Dr. Mathieu Munsch, who was present at the event, highlighted:

“It is a privilege for Qnami to support EQUAL’s vision and the development of quantum technologies in the state of Massachusetts. We believe that EQUAL’s pioneer move will inspire other initiatives throughout the country, as the importance of quantum technologies will keep rising”
