New research on van der Waals magnets using Qnami QuantileverMX

In the search for van der Waals magnets, a group of researchers from the University of Montpellier made new progress using Scanning NV Microscopy and Qnami QuantileverMX technology. The research was recently posted to arXiv.org with the title, Characterization of room-temperature in-plane magnetization in thin flakes of CrTe2 with a single spin magnetometer.

Van der Waals crystals are a special class of materials. They can be combined like lego bricks and made atomically flat, two nice features for building smart and energy efficient devices for the future.

The team demonstrates that the material known as CrTe2 can be turned into a thin flake with intrinsic magnetic properties still visible at ambient (room temperature) conditions. The result adds a new member to the family of Van der Waals magnets and suggests a new road in the quest for atomically flat magnets.

About Qnami Quantilevers: The Qnami Quantilever MX series are diamond probes with a single-spin NV center for imaging of magnetic fields.  This series is designed for magnetic imaging in nanoscale resolution. With a true NV at the center of the tip, Quantilever MX probes scan surfaces with extreme precision and allow non-perturbative analysis of a large variety of magnetic materials. Qnami QuantileverMX probes can be ordered by contacting Qnami at sales@qnami.ch.

About Qnami: Qnami is a VC-backed high-tech company with its roots at the Physics Department of the University of Basel in Switzerland. It develops fundamental new technology using quantum mechanics. The control of the state of a single electron enables measurement with a precision that could never be achieved before. The technique is called quantum sensing and Qnami is enthusiastically developing it to improve people’s lives and the world. Extensive academic research and deep knowledge build the ground for all that Qnami does. With this technology, Qnami is redefining the common understanding of precision. Qnami offers an open team culture of mutual respect and intercultural understanding which is both business and scientific minded. Qnami attracts young, multicultural, open and skilled team members, who have a deep passion for the work. www.qnami.ch
