Long decay lenght magnons in multiferroics

Magnons can travel in ferromagnetic metals and magnetic insulators free of resistance. They are, therefore, considered optimal candidates for low-power consumption magnonic devices. The short magnons decay length, however, makes it extremely difficult to build effective on-chip magnonic devices.
 
A group of researchers led by Prof. Haiming Yu (Beihang University, Beijing, China) recently published a paper where they show long distance magnon propagation of up to one millimeter in multiferroic/ferromagnetic (BFO/LSMO) heterostructures at room temperature….
